Kathy’s world has revolved around art in one form or another since, at an early age, it was discovered she would instinctively color in the lines! This is where her art journey began, at the kitchen tables of assorted local art ladies and a bit later at The Toledo Art Museum in their Saturday Classes. Introduced to Commercial Art at the University of Kansas and later studying at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh the stage was set for a life in graphics and illustration, or so she thought. Decades later, after the arrival of the computer, the realization that there was an overpowering need to create her art by hand arose. The call of the paint brush had become too strong to resist. Acrylic paint is the medium of choice and part of her technique being used starts with working on a heavily textured, very dark base. This technique creates the deep shadows and glowing highlights that give the ethereal feeling that is Kathy striving for. Kathy’s journey as an artist includes Graphic Design, Illustration, Calligraphy, Toy Design, Children’s and Mechanical based book illustration. She has taught Art Fundamentals and Color Theory at Defiance College in Ohio and still does teach these basics as she’s asked. Several galleries in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana represent Kathy and her artwork hangs in many private and corporation collections. Commissions through Gallery 317 are warmly welcomed!
