Artist Brenda Hofbauer loves the way creating art encourages her to see – the color of light, the shape of a shadow, where reflections have traveled. She challenges herself to use a color that might not be the one she sees, but it’s the one the artwork needs. By constantly looking for inspiration and experimenting with new techniques her work stays fresh. Hofbauer’s intricate paper collages and her paintings are contemporary impressionistic studies of snapshots of her life. While landscapes comprise a good portion of her portfolio, she also enjoys creating figurative works and still lifes. The creative process for her collages is like doing a puzzle without pieces. The result is powerful statements made of just paper and acrylic medium. Hofbauer is a member and current president of Athena Art Society of Toledo, She is also a member of Toledo Federation of Art Societies (TFAS) and Black Swamp Art Guild (BSAG). Orchard Gallery of Fort Wayne, Indiana featured Hofbauer’s collages in June 2024. In 2023, her collage All to Ourselves received the Best of Show award in the TFAS Juried Members’ Exclusive Exhibition and the oil painting Rocky Coast received the 3rd place award in Athena’s Annual Fall Juried Exhibition. Over the past 15 years, she has won numerous awards in BSAG’s annual fall show, including 1 best of show, several 1st place ribbons and the people’s choice award 3 times. She has also won awards in exhibitions at the Wassenberg Art Center in Van Wert, Ohio. The Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers (CHWC) Artisan Collection, now Parkview Bryan, owns ten of Hofbauer’s original works. Many other paintings and collages are in private collections.
